Balangoda Water Supply Scheme
Balangoda Water supply project is one of the landmark water projects constructed by the MAGA Engineering Pvt Ltd with the capacity of 7 MLD per day. The project was located in the area called Weliharanawa close to the Balangoda – Badulla highway and about 1km away from the Balangoda Town. This project scope was to Construct a New Water Treatment Plant, New Intake structure, Two above ground reservoirs (2250 CUM), Raw water line from Intake to WTP, the transmission and distribution network (15Km).
The water was taken from the Walawe River constructing a new Intake well structure in the river. A bund wall made across the river to maintain the required minimum water level. From there about 1.5Km distance a PVC raw water line is laid to supply the raw water to the water treatment Plant.
I was deployed in this project to work as a Junior Engineer to do the construction of the Intake and the Water Treatment Plant. As this was my first employment as a graduated Engineer it was a great opportunity for me to learn from the basics up to the advance methodologies of construction.
I have gained experience of all the works related to water treatment structures, Two story buildings and roads construction. My first responsibility in this project was to prepare the bar bending schedules for the sludge drying beds. I had to self learn how to prepare such kind of Bar schedules and I have learned in the hard way how to bend the bars and bind the bars as per the schedule.
As this was my first appointment, I could involve in the work from level zero to gain all the experience from preparing Bar schedules and how to bend and bind the bars by myself.
I have worked there for 8 months and I got an opportunity to transfer to Greater Dambulla Water Supply Project as the Civil Engineer of the treatment plant and Intake
